Well now, the weather is a bit crazy here. One day shorts and t-shirt, the next gloves and coat! So I've been cosying myself up in the new house trying to make sense of all my work. Of course you can't go far wrong with wool felt, and my this box of it warms my heart!
This has been a work in progress for a while now, since I bought two huge wool blankets from an Oxfam shop a few weeks back. It was very exciting let me tell you! Cutting and felting and dyeing many shades of yummy earthy colours was really very satisfying. I quite like flat felt to work with though and so I was a little disappointed at how uneven the pieces came out. No problem though... a few goes over with a hot iron and voila...flat felt!
And so the lovely yellow felt is becoming a lion.
A very special lion for a gentleman in Rome who I thank sincerely for being my first shop customer! I sold my first toy on Friday. I'm going to make each toy after the sale so that it is more personal to the buyer. It was overwhelming and so very very exciting. I'm really thrilled. It got me to thinking about goals though and how when you achieve one it's never enough. At least that's the way it is for me. I have a goal, hopefully acheive it, have a while of pure elation and then bam, next goal is ready and waiting. You see last week my goal was to sell a toy, which I very luckily reached, then it was to have my work featured in a magazine. Low and behold a day or two later, two online magazines contact me. Now my goal is to sell my work in Macy's (New York), one of my favourite favourite shops. A bit of a leap! But I don't mind waiting a few years or even 20!
Whilst I'm waiting for Macy's to call, I'm working on some Clara cards. I'm thinking of selling them in pretty little sets of six but I'm not too sure yet. Here's a little bit of my 'in a rush but have to get it drawn now' sketching...Clara's toys.
Hope everyone had a lovely weekend and if in need of a pick-me-up, rip up some woolyness and felt it!
